Description

This module presents an overview of the more important,
higher-revenue-generating alternative services and activities
banks offer, including:

INVESTMENT BANKING: the sale and distribution of a new offering of,
as well as previously issued, securities; the creation and
maintenance of markets for these securities; and other services,
such as broker-dealer operations and financial advisory services.

MERCHANT BANKING: investment banking that specializes in
counseling and merger and acquisition negotiations, leveraged
buyouts, credit financing and other structured finance transactions.

TRUST SERVICE: a fiduciary service whereby the bank, referred to as
trustee, holds title to and manages properties for the benefit of
its client, usually called the beneficiary.

CREDIT CARD SERVICE: a service whereby a bank offers to a
customer with satisfactory credit rating a payment card for making
retail purchases or obtaining cash advances from a preapproved
credit line.

e-BANKING: the access and use by a customer of the various services
a bank offers via electronic media devices or networks, such as the
Internet, phone lines, etc., and the bank's use of the like media as
marketing vehicles to cross-sell its products and services.

The module also examines in meticulous detail the various self-imposed
as well as regulatory-mandated ways by which banks protect
themselves against all forms of criminal activity. Included is an overview
of the stringent rules bank regulators impose concerning risk
management, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.
